The NBA All-Star 3-point Shootout contest has changed a lot in the past few years. The first 30 years of the contest was unchanged. We will explore the changes in this article.
1985-2014 (original rules)
- 30 points maximum
- 25 shot total
- 5 money balls worth (2), 1 per rack
- 60 second time limit
2014-2020
- 34 points maximum
- 25 shots total
- 9 money balls worth (2)
- 1 moneyball per 4 racks
- 5 moneyballs on one rack of choice
- 4 points more than before
- same number of shots than before
- same time limit (60s)
2020+
- 40 points maximum now
- 27 shots total
- 9 original money balls worth (2)
- however, TWO extra money balls (MTN DEW shots) worth (3)!
- the new shots are 6' further out
- time increased by 10s (70s total)
